COMPLIMENTARY SAMPLE · CHAPTER I OF VII

The Lost Throne

Remember who you were before you learned to disappear.

You are experiencing the first chapter. This sample does not grant member access or save progress to an account.

Sovereignty is participation in your own choices, not control over every circumstance. It begins where you can notice a need, check a commitment, ask a question, or choose between available responses. A real constraint does not erase every smaller choice.

An automatic yes may have served belonging, efficiency, or a genuine responsibility. Notice its purpose before judging it. The useful question is whether this response still fits the request, your capacity, and the kind of care you want to offer now.

Separate a duty from a preference and a learned rule. A scheduled responsibility may be yours to meet. A preference tells you what you would welcome. A rule such as “A good woman never disappoints anyone” adds a condition that deserves examination. These are different kinds of information.

Capacity is practical information. Consider the time, attention, bodily care, and support a yes would require. If you cannot name what it will cost, pause before promising it. You may need a smaller offer, another time, a shared task, or a respectful no.

Use one low-stakes request as your working example. Write what you need, choose the capacity you actually have, and name an available response. You are building a habit of consulting yourself, not proving that your preference must always prevail.

HOW THIS CAN LOOK

A friend asks for help on your only free evening. The fact is that you have limited time; the rule may be “A good friend never says no.” You might choose a shorter visit, offer another day, or decline. The purpose is to consider your capacity before giving an answer.

These further questions are optional. Sit with them quietly or include what matters in your reflections below.

  • Where does my preference disappear before I have even named it?
  • What could I choose if another person were allowed to feel disappointed?

YOUR SACRED PRACTICE

Sit somewhere quiet and place a hand over your heart. Take three comfortable breaths. Finish this sentence aloud: “Somewhere along the way, I learned that I had to…” Then say: “Today, I am allowed to choose again.”

Space for your own words.
